OCR, ICR and OMR

OCR, ICR and OMR

OCR, ICR & OMR are the different methods of recognising data during the data capture process.

Which software method is used for your project will depend of the documents and data we are capturing. Our staff can advise you on the best forms of data capture to suit your needs specifically. Below is a quick explanation of the different data capture software we use and when they are usually applied.

OCR (Optical Character Recognition)

OCR | Optical Character Recognition

Optical Character Recognition is the standard form of data recognition used in the data capture process to capture computer typed text. The software then feeds the data into the system exactly as it is scanned. This form of recognition works solely on computer typed text so if you have a survey or questionnaire, OCR will be applied to the typed questions and any sections produced as typed text.

If the document is clean (meaning there are no marks or writing over the text) then the OCR accuracy rate is 99.95% which on average is much more accurate and faster than manual data entry. OCR can also recognise a wide range of foreign languages too including French, German, Portuguese, Italian, Spanish, Urdu, Arabic, Russian and more.

ICR (Intelligent Character Recognition)

ICR | Intelligent Character Recognition

ICR or Intelligent Character Recognition is a software which is used to identify structured handwriting. Structured handwriting is that which is written with each letter written into consecutive boxes. Structured handwriting can usually be found on application forms in the sections where personal details such as name and address are needed.

ICR will capture and convert the structured handwriting from your scanned document into a text searchable electronic document.

OMR (Optical Mark Recognition)

OMR | Optical Mark Recognition

OMR processing is able to recognise marks that have been made on forms, surveys and questionnaires. These marks are often seen in checkboxes and tickboxes indicating the statements each person finds to be applicable to them.

This solution is very useful for processing data such as application forms, questionnaires or other such forms. OMR helps you to collate all of that data together to provide results quickly and easily ready for analysis.

Data Capture Quality Control

Once your forms, surveys, questionnaires and invoices have been scanned and OCR, ICR or OMR have been applied, our experienced scanning staff will complete quality checks to ensure all of your data has been captured correctly. They will make sure there are no mistakes or missing data.

These quality checks are in place to provide our clients with an accurate return for their data as we are dedicated to providing the best possible data capture service each and every time.
